The Broadway musical connects the movie to the Oz book series. Comparing of the Land of Oz with the dark side is not too large of a stretch for Oz fans, as Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" has been synonymously linked to the film for decades.

Legend has it that when Pink Floyd's album "Dark Side of the Moon" is played at the third roar of the MGM lion, while hitting mute on the film at the very beginning of Wizard of Oz, the two are tied together. So many parallels can be drawn between the album's lyrics, timing, song titles, and what is happening on-screen that many believe the two were written concurrently.

Some syncs between album and film are more obvious, as when the first cash register ring is heard during "Money," just as Dorothy opens the door to Munchkin Land and everything turns from black-and-white to color right on cue. Other similarities are tied to more obscure lyrics, such as when the tornado is approaching and Dorothy waits for Toto. The lyrics sing, "� Waiting for someone or something to show you the way ... " as Toto pops his head in her bedroom window, to show her the way.
