A Chorus Line saw its Broadway revival in 2006. It is derived from taped sessions with Broadway dancers, or "gypsies" as they are commonly known.

Eight of the dancers were used in the original cast. The stage setup is a bare Broadway stage, and audience members witness the auditions of dancers trying out for the chorus line of a musical. It gives a glimpse into the lives of the performers, and what shaped their decision to become dancers. The pre-popularity of the show when it first opened in 1975 sold out the entire run immediately. A Chorus Line was at one time the longest running Broadway show in history, before Cats passed this in 1997 and then Phantom of the Opera in 2006 both took that slot. Today it is the fifth longest-running musical on Broadway.

The musical has been awarded nine Tony Awards, after being nominated for 12. It received Best Musical, Best Actress, Best Featured Actor, Best Featured Actress, Best Director, Best Musical Book, Best Score, Best Lighting Design and Best Choreography. In 1976 A Chorus Line won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play of the Season. The play has had much success touring the world.

A Chorus Line, the Broadway musical that has been captivating Broadway audiences at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre since 2006, will be taking off on a national tour to share its success with the entire country. Debuting May 6-17, 2008 in Denver at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, or Buell Theatre, A Chorus Line tickets will be a hot commodity. The show will continue to the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles where tickets for the seven-week run will be on sale from May 21 to July 6, 2008. Other cities being considered for A Chorus Line's national tour are Philadelphia, Seattle, Toronto, Portland and Washington, D.C.
